SIF AUM Crosses ₹31,000 Crore in August 2026 as Industry Reaches 1.25 Lakh Folios

The industry comprised 33 investment strategies and 1,25,539 folios, highlighting the expanding footprint of SIFs within India's investment landscape. The data also reveals something equally important: SIF assets are currently highly concentrated in Hybrid Long-Short and Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short strategies, rather than being evenly distributed across the entire SIF framework.

SIF AUM Crosses ₹31,000 Crore in August 2026 as Industry Reaches 1.25 Lakh Folios

India's Specialized Investment Fund (SIF) ecosystem continued to scale in August 2026, with total industry assets crossing the ₹31,000 crore mark.

According to the SIF Monthly Report for August 2026, net assets under management stood at:

₹31,175.43 crore

as of August 31, 2026.

AMFI maintains dedicated SIF research infrastructure covering monthly data, NAVs, factsheets, portfolios and other disclosures as the category expands.

SIF Industry at a Glance: August 2026

Here are the headline numbers from the August monthly report:

SIF Industry MetricAugust 2026
Total SIF AUM₹31,175.43 Cr
Average AUM during August₹26,446.86 Cr
Total SIF Strategies33
Total Folios1,25,539
Funds Mobilised during August₹8,069.51 Cr
Repurchases/Redemptions₹370.13 Cr
Net Inflows₹7,699.38 Cr

The headline ₹31,175.43 crore figure represents month-end net assets under management, while average AUM for August stood at ₹26,446.86 crore.

The distinction matters because average AUM measures assets across the reporting period, whereas month-end AUM provides a snapshot as of August 31.

How Is India's ₹31,175 Crore SIF AUM Distributed?

The August data divides the industry broadly into Equity Oriented, Debt Oriented and Hybrid Investment Strategies.

But assets are far from evenly distributed.

SIF AUM by Broad Investment Category

CategoryStrategiesFoliosAUM
Equity Oriented1967,098₹9,785.06 Cr
Hybrid1458,441₹21,390.37 Cr
Debt Oriented---
Total331,25,539₹31,175.43 Cr

Hybrid strategies therefore held approximately:

68.6% of total SIF AUM

while equity-oriented strategies accounted for approximately:

31.4% of total SIF AUM.

So more than two out of every three rupees of SIF AUM were held in hybrid strategies at August-end.

However, there's an interesting twist.

Equity had more folios than Hybrid despite managing less than half as much AUM.

Hybrid SIF AUM Reaches ₹21,390 Crore

Hybrid Investment Strategies represented the largest part of India's SIF industry in August.

The segment ended the month with:

AUM: ₹21,390.37 crore

Strategies: 14

Folios: 58,441

Average August AUM: ₹18,729.16 crore

Within Hybrid, there are two strategy categories in the August report:

Hybrid Long-Short Fund

11 strategies

49,037 folios

₹19,669.50 crore AUM

Active Asset Allocator Long-Short Fund

3 strategies

9,404 folios

₹1,720.87 crore AUM

The difference is substantial.

Hybrid Long-Short alone represented approximately 92% of all Hybrid SIF AUM.

More strikingly, it accounted for approximately:

63.1% of India's entire SIF industry AUM.

So a single strategy category currently holds nearly two-thirds of the assets in India's SIF ecosystem.

AMFI's live SIF NAV database also shows multiple Hybrid Long-Short and Active Asset Allocator Long-Short strategies operating across the market.

Equity SIF AUM Reaches ₹9,785 Crore

Equity Oriented Investment Strategies accounted for:

₹9,785.06 crore AUM

across:

19 strategies

and:

67,098 folios.

The equity segment itself is divided into three categories.

Equity SIF CategoryStrategiesFoliosAUM
Equity Long-Short1123,556₹3,449.98 Cr
Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short742,902₹6,288.90 Cr
Sector Rotation Long-Short1640₹46.18 Cr
Total Equity1967,098₹9,785.06 Cr

The clear leader is Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short.

Equity Ex-Top 100 Emerges as the Largest Equity SIF Segment

The Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short Fund category ended August with:

₹6,288.90 crore AUM

across seven strategies.

It also accounted for 42,902 folios, substantially more than the 23,556 folios in Equity Long-Short.

Equity Ex-Top 100 represented approximately:

64.3% of total Equity SIF AUM.

This makes it the second-largest SIF strategy category overall, behind Hybrid Long-Short.

AMFI's live database currently lists multiple Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short strategies across SIF platforms, demonstrating the breadth that has developed within this segment.

Equity Long-Short AUM Stands at ₹3,450 Crore

The broader Equity Long-Short category had:

11 strategies

23,556 folios

and:

₹3,449.98 crore AUM

at August-end.

Interestingly, Equity Long-Short had more strategies than Equity Ex-Top 100 - 11 versus 7 - but substantially lower AUM.

That highlights why simply counting the number of launched SIF strategies doesn't provide a complete picture of industry adoption.

Assets and folios tell another part of the story.

Sector Rotation Long-Short Remains a Small Segment

Sector Rotation Long-Short was considerably smaller.

The August report shows:

1 strategy

640 folios

and:

₹46.18 crore AUM.

That represented less than 0.2% of overall SIF industry assets.

The category is therefore still at a relatively early stage compared with Hybrid Long-Short and Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short.

Which SIF Category Has the Highest AUM?

Ranking the strategy categories by August-end AUM produces a very clear picture:

RankSIF Strategy CategoryAUMApprox. Industry Share
1Hybrid Long-Short₹19,669.50 Cr63.1%
2Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short₹6,288.90 Cr20.2%
3Equity Long-Short₹3,449.98 Cr11.1%
4Active Asset Allocator Long-Short₹1,720.87 Cr5.5%
5Sector Rotation Long-Short₹46.18 Cr0.1%

The two largest categories alone -

Hybrid Long-Short + Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short

  • managed:

₹25,958.40 crore.

That's approximately:

83.3% of India's entire SIF AUM.

This concentration is one of the most important findings in the August data.

India's SIF industry may have expanded to 33 strategies, but more than four-fifths of its assets currently sit in just two strategy categories.

SIF Folios Cross 1.25 Lakh

Another major milestone from August is the industry's folio count.

Total SIF folios reached:

1,25,539

as of August 31, 2026.

The distribution was:

Equity SIFs - 67,098 folios

Hybrid SIFs - 58,441 folios

Equity therefore represented approximately 53.4% of total folios, while Hybrid represented around 46.6%.

That's particularly interesting because the AUM picture is almost the reverse.

Hybrid manages 68.6% of assets, despite accounting for less than half of folios.

Which SIF Category Has the Most Folios?

The category-level ranking looks like this:

SIF CategoryFolios
Hybrid Long-Short49,037
Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short42,902
Equity Long-Short23,556
Active Asset Allocator Long-Short9,404
Sector Rotation Long-Short640
Total1,25,539

Hybrid Long-Short therefore leads both AUM and folios.

But Equity Ex-Top 100 isn't far behind on folio count despite having less than one-third of Hybrid Long-Short's AUM.

AUM Per Folio Reveals Another Interesting Difference

While a folio is not the same as a unique investor, dividing AUM by folios can still illustrate how assets are distributed across account records.

Using August-end data:

Hybrid: approximately ₹36.6 lakh AUM per folio

versus

Equity: approximately ₹14.6 lakh AUM per folio.

Again, this should not be interpreted as the average amount invested by an individual SIF investor. A single investor can have multiple folios, and portfolio movements also affect AUM.

Nevertheless, it demonstrates the substantial difference between the asset and folio composition of the two broad SIF segments.

Debt SIF Strategies Yet to Show Assets in August Report

Another notable observation is what's missing.

The SIF framework includes:

Debt Long-Short Fund

and

Sectoral Debt Long-Short Fund.

However, the August report shows no schemes, folios or AUM under either category.

That means the ₹31,175 crore SIF industry was effectively concentrated entirely within Equity and Hybrid strategies at August-end.

This could change considerably as the industry matures and additional strategies come to market.

33 SIF Strategies Are Now Part of the Industry Data

The August report counted:

33 strategies

consisting of:

11 Equity Long-Short

7 Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short

1 Sector Rotation Long-Short

3 Active Asset Allocator Long-Short

11 Hybrid Long-Short

This is important from an industry-development perspective.

SIF is no longer represented by only a handful of initial products. Investors and distributors now have multiple strategies operating across different mandates.

At the same time, the absence of Debt SIFs shows that the ecosystem is still far from fully developed across every permitted strategy category.

What Does ₹31,175 Crore SIF AUM Tell Us?

The headline AUM figure is significant, but four underlying trends tell a more useful story.

First, Hybrid dominates assets. Approximately 69% of SIF AUM currently sits in Hybrid Investment Strategies.

Second, Hybrid Long-Short is overwhelmingly the largest individual category. Its ₹19,669.50 crore represents roughly 63% of the entire market.

Third, Equity Ex-Top 100 has emerged as the strongest equity segment. It accounts for around 64% of Equity SIF AUM and 42,902 folios.

Fourth, participation is broader than AUM alone suggests. Equity SIFs have more folios than Hybrid SIFs despite managing significantly less money.

These trends provide a more complete picture of the SIF ecosystem than simply tracking the headline ₹31,175 crore number.

Is Higher SIF AUM a Sign of Better Performance?

No.

This distinction is important for investors.

Higher AUM does not mean a strategy will generate higher returns.

Similarly:

More folios ≠ better performance

Higher inflows ≠ lower risk

Larger category ≠ more suitable investment

AUM primarily tells us the amount of money managed within a strategy or category.

Investment decisions should instead consider factors such as the strategy mandate, underlying portfolio, benchmark, risks, derivative exposure, liquidity provisions, fees, drawdowns, volatility, investment horizon and suitability.

This becomes especially important for SIFs because different strategy categories can have materially different portfolio structures.

The Bigger Picture for India's SIF Industry

Crossing ₹31,000 crore in AUM and 1.25 lakh folios represents an important stage in the development of India's Specialized Investment Fund ecosystem.

But perhaps the more interesting story is what's happening underneath the headline.

India's SIF market is currently heavily concentrated in Hybrid Long-Short, followed by Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short.

At the same time, equity strategies have accumulated more folios overall, new strategies continue to enter the market, and entire areas such as Debt Long-Short remain largely undeveloped based on August data.

That means the composition of the industry could look very different as SIFs accumulate longer track records and more AMCs expand their offerings.

For investors, distributors and the broader wealth-management industry, the numbers worth tracking from here aren't just total SIF AUM, but also:

folios, category-wise AUM, AMC-wise AUM, monthly net flows, new launches and long-term strategy performance.

Final Takeaway

India's Specialized Investment Fund industry reached ₹31,175.43 crore in AUM as of August 31, 2026, spread across 33 strategies and 1,25,539 folios.

Hybrid strategies dominated with ₹21,390.37 crore, while Equity strategies accounted for ₹9,785.06 crore.

At the strategy level, Hybrid Long-Short remained the clear leader at ₹19,669.50 crore, followed by Equity Ex-Top 100 Long-Short at ₹6,288.90 crore.

Together, those two categories represented approximately 83% of the entire SIF industry's assets.

As India's SIF market continues to evolve, these monthly AUM and folio numbers will provide an increasingly useful view of where investor participation is actually developing within the category.
